Available Now: FAR FROM LUCK by Charles O'Hay

***
UPDATE
It is now available on Amazon.com for Kindle, and Smashwords (in various incantations including iTunes), and is now available on Barnes and Noble for Nook!!
GO. SEE. HURRY!!!

***
It will be available as an ebook on Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, and smashwords.com in the next 24-48 hours. Although this book was not published under the Ruby Violet imprimatur, but Lucky Bat Books, I am proud to have been the editor and layout editor for this collection. A publish on demand (POD) offering of Far From Luck will be available shortly as well.

I have followed Charles' work for many years on his blog, It Ain't All Pizzas and Ice Cream, and often wondered why he'd never been published--I found his work to be magical, edgy, dark, and inspiring all at once, and at times witty and poignant.Well, how naive I was--he had been published many, many times, and was the recipient of a 1995 Pennsylvania Council on the Arts fellowship in poetry. But he had never published a collection of his work. Until now.

When I met publisher Cindie Geddes of Lucky Bat Books, she told me about the new publishing paradigm, that authors are taking command of their works, their names, and their royalties, and I asked her if she would give me freelance editorial work and possibly mentor me. She said yes to both. And I'm very grateful.

This has been a labor of love for me--I did it all for free--Charles has had a tough row to hoe in his life, and managed to survive and thrive, and I admire that attribute in a person--perseverance. And it is my honor that he allowed me, a newbie not sure what she was doing, to make this fine book a realization.

There is still much to do as far as the POD (print) edition goes, but I am confident that we can git 'er done. But for those of you with ereaders, one day this week, go to the bookseller of your choice online, and buy a copy of Far From Luck. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you again, Charles O'Hay.

Poetry Manuscript Good to Go

I've been working on this particular poetry manuscript since February. Vetting poems, pulling out the ones I like or I think have merit, compiling, editing, putting them in an order that makes sense, and then adding about 9 photos that will reflect what the poem it is inserted near is about.

Then I got to fight Word 2003 for making a table of contents. Even in their "How To" videos, Microsoft leaves things out. If it weren't for a college friend who was in the same editing program I was, I wouldn't have had a clue as to what they were talking about. Thanks "N" in Chicago. :-)

So it's done. I just need the author to give me access to his various book selling site accounts, and I can upload the book. I hope I can get it published and then post more information about it here TODAY. Some of the sites take between 12 - 48 hours for it to actually show up on site, but it will, hopefully, be uploaded for publishing today. And then I will spill ALL!

This girl is tired. And her @$$ hurts.

But YAY!!!

Testing 1, 2, 3: I'm a Published Author!!

In preparation for publishing a manuscript I've edited for a friend, I tested out the three major epublishing sites on the net--smashwords.com; barnesandnoble.com; and amazon.com--I uploaded a short story I wrote in college (and revised and revised) to all three sites. It is available for download for .99 cents US Dollars.

The Title is:  "At the 5 and 91" by Julie Ricks

It's 4am on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, it may take 24 hours for the story to show up, so be patient if it's not there yet.  Also, if you do purchase it, I'd love to hear what you think about it.

Epublishing baby.  Next up?  POD, Publish on Demand.

I love learning new things!!

New Publishing Model | Electronic Media

This is the new publishing model--electronic media. This is a great article on why a New York Times bestselling author turned down $500,000 to self-publish his own book.

Paper books will probably never go away, but for entertainment reading, I believe wholeheartedly this is the new paradigm.  At the first of the year, I signed on as a freelance editor with a publisher who has taught me a lot of things about publishing in this new Universe. Now I can help you with your self publishing and e-books, or I can print your book as a traditional book, print on demand (POD) and e-book both with this press.

Come over to the light side.

Still not convinced? Then check out this article on the right side of this page. Click to enlarge:

EBook Summit | The Digital Shift

I think I'd like to go to this. Put on by the Library Journal, it's a virtual conference on how libraries are leveraging the ebook opportunity. For students, it's only $19.95. What a deal.

My first edited ms for an author who is not myself,  is nearly ready to be uploaded as an ebook. It won't be through the Ruby Violet Press, however, but through Lucky Bat Books. I do freelance work for Lucky Bat Books, and know the publisher quite well, so when I approached the author about publishing his works, it was through the aegis of Lucky Bat Books.

I will still be working with LBB, but I would like to put out some works under my own imprint. The revolution is here, people!
